To the Boy Scouts of America National Executive Board:
My name is Trevor Smith and I am a homosexual. This truth I have come to understand after much soul searching and deliberation. I did not choose to be homosexual but a truth it remains. To that I add my testimony that God will not condemn me for a choice I have not made. I will keep this letter short and simple.
I see the truth about my sexuality. Although countless others have rejected that truth, I can no longer stand on the side of injustice. I am returning my Eagle Scout award because of the prejudice and intolerance of the BSA towards homosexuals. I would like to thank BSA for every life lesson they have granted me but I would be a hypocrite not to stand against discrimination in all forms. I end with a quote by Austin O’Malley Dublin senior football champion, “Treat kindly every miserable truth that knocks begging at your door, otherwise you will someday fail to recognize Truth Himself when He comes in rags.”
Thank you for reading and I wish the best for the Boy Scouts of America.
Trevor Smith, former Eagle Scout.
